The track sits on Ile Notre-Dame, an artificial island built in the St Lawrence for Expo 67 out of rock excavated from the Montreal Metro, and is almost perfectly flat - under two metres of elevation change over the lap. Its low-drag straights, brutal braking zones and unforgiving walls make it one of the calendar's highest-attrition races.
The gold finish
Cut from premium gold mirror acrylic. It is not lit: the finish catches whatever light is in the room, which is what gives it depth.
